Colgate is launching creativity in Makers with a free take-home DIY airplane project. They’ve partnered with TerraCycle to create upcycled airplanes from toothpaste tubes. Give your oral care waste a second life! At Maker Faire you’ll have the chance to participate and create a free DIY airplane using Colgate toothpaste tubes.

Hitachi contributes to society through the development of superior, original technology and products, and delivers innovations that answer society’s challenges. Explore a few of our favorite technologies as we aim to inspire the next generation of engineers. Visitors will be able to use our scanning electron microscope to view various slide samples, take a photo with our Helio Castroneves Fathead stand-out, and sample the vacuum test demonstration result: a compressed marshmallow.

Altair Engineering
Come see a prototype of the bike that won the 2015 Tour de France and learn how modern technology and engineering from Altair improved the aerodynamic performance as well as optimized the weight and structural efficiency of the bike. See modern technology at work with product examples and simulations using Altair’s cutting edge engineering and product design.

General Electric
GE is changing the world with sensor-enablement and data analytics using its own cloud- based operating system, Predix. This is a revolutionary and fun opportunity for Maker attendees to see firsthand how GE is driving the Industrial Internet of Things. Guests of Maker Faire will be able to experience the goals of the GE STEM Kit and STEM programs: educate to students and the public the breadth of GE technologies and products, promote interest in STEM careers among students, promote interest in GE careers

Ford Motor Company Fund is sponsoring the Arts and Scraps mobile crafting experience. Guests will be able to create art from recycled materials – to then take. This is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to think, create and learn.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) under the Pure Talent Connect Stop by their tent to learn more about ways they are showcasing skilled trade careers in advanced manufacturing, construction, healthcare, IT and more ways they are helping retain talented young minds in Michigan and to purchase Pure Michigan merchandise.

Shell is bringing their salt-water car track-a very popular hands-on activity for all ages as well as showcasing their prototype fuel efficient cars.

University of Michigan Dearborn: UMDearborn has our guests’ parking needs covered again providing additional parking and shuttles at their Fairlane campus. You’ll also see UM-Dearborn hands-on activities inside teaching programming and other  members outside showcasing their formula SAE car.
